Railway services commute air travelers to Amsterdam by train, which is located 9 miles away. The airport and international railway is the 5th busiest transport destination in the whole of Europe by international passenger traffic. It consists of 6 runways, one large terminal that is spilt into 3 different terminals and 3 departure halls. The Schiphol air traffic control tower was constructed in 1991 and was the tallest in the world at the time at a height of 101 meters.
Schiphol is the world’s lowest major commercial airport as it is situated below sea level! Over time Schiphol has introduced some unique facilities to improve the efficiency of the airport such as, the iris recognition featuring in the automatic border passage system.
Schiphol has main flights travelling regularly to Heathrow Airport with 117 flights going out, Frankfurt Airport with 92 flights, Paris Charles de Gaulle with 87 flights and Munich with 82 flights travelling out weekly. These are just some of the main destinations that fly out from Schiphol Airport. Other main flights include, Barcelona, Madrid, Copenhagen, London City, Rome Fiumicino and Zurich.

trains between Ebbsfleet International and Schiphol have average journey times of 3 and a half hours, the route passes through Brussels and Lille. Schiphol Amsterdam Airport is so popular because it has such extensive facilities, and visitors travelling on to nearby Amsterdam can take advantage of all the facilities, whether you are travelling by train or by plane.

Buses
Bus terminals are from Schiphol are at the front of the Arrival and Departure lounges.
Schiphol Sternet, with high frequency from early in the morning until late in the evening and a night service: On average, travel times to and from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol are under half an hour. There is also the Sternet-operated Interliner rapid bus connection in the Schiphol region. The Interliner 370 line runs between Alphen Rijn, Leimuiden, Schiphol, Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam Centre.
Bus line 300 runs to and from all the following places Haarlem, Hoofddorp, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Amstelveen, Ouderkerk, Vijfhuizen and Amsterdam Zuidoost.
Line 310 runs between Nieuw Vennep, Hoofddorp, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Amsterdam Buitenveldert.

Airport Facilities
There are a whole host of different options for travellers and people waiting. Schiphol has 3 lounges and 3 halls, there are information desks are located in halls 2 and 3 in Arrivals. Bureau de change facilities are widely available throughout the airport, along with a variety of different banks, cash machines and postal services.
Luggage
Lost property is kept in the basement between Arrivals 1 and 2, with an office in the airport itself. There are lockers throughout the airport, but Seal & Go also offer a sealing service for luggage. Free trolleys and a porter service are available.
Shopping
Schiphol Plaza is the main shopping centre within the airport, it has everything from cosmetics, models and magazines, including duty free shops such as, fashion boutiques, newsagents, flower shops, gift shops and music shops. There are many more other different shops and the centre is very popular with day tourists as well as travellers. Duty free shops are only available for travellers with a boarding pass, travelling to or from the airport.
Eating and Drinking
The airport consists of many restaurants, cafes and bars such as Chao Phraya , De Blauwe Hollander, Grand Cafe Heineken Hoek, New Deli, AH to go and Café Rembrandt. The airport accommodates traditional food and drinks from different countries such as, Dutch, Thai and traditional English. You can buy hot and cold food, alcoholic beverages as well as hot and cold drinks, if you have a sweet tooth you can pop into the convenient stores to buy sweets, chocolate and crisps, if you don’t fancy sitting down at one of the fancy restaurants or one of the fast food places.
Entertainment
The airport has something for everyone with baby changing facilities, wooden tree houses for children with an adventure playground, also for the adults (over 18’s) there is a casino inside the airport.
Holland Casino Schiphol
Holland Casino Schiphol is the only one in the world located inside a major international airport; it has over 80 slot machines, three roulette and blackjack tables, a smaller outpost in the Bubbles Lounge.
Children and Families
Baby changing facilities are available in all toilets, there are playgrounds located in the Hollywood Boulevard, including Kids’ Forest: A series of wooden tree houses free of charge (adventure playground).
Panorama Platform
The L-shaped terrace, which is free to use, has two Heineken bars and telescopes to see the planes arrive and depart. There is a triangular lift that transports visitors back into the main airport complex. Each section of the terrace is approximately 100 metres long, and the whole structure is open from 9-5 in winter and from 7-8 in summer.
Communication and Technology
Multimedia telephone units are located throughout the terminal with touch-screen features for airport information, and mobile phones are available for hire from the Telecom Rentcenter. Wi-fi is an option in the Communications Centre. The Schiphol Business Centre has offices equipped with fax to let, computer, telephone, and a secretarial service. Also available are: mini-offices; a telephone centre with full telecommunication facilities and the Skyport Business Centre.
Rijksmuseum Amsterdam Schiphol
The art and history museum (free to the public) opened this annex in 2002, making it the world’s premier airport museum, containing paintings by Jan Steen, Jacob van Ruisdael, and other Dutch masters. Temporary exhibitions throughout the year feature work on loan from the city museum’s permanent collection, including works by Rembrandt and Frans Hals.
